About this Event:

This ORV Safety class is being held in as a take home study for enrolled students. Students will be required to pick up a copy of the ORV student manual at the White Birch Recreational Association Clubhouse (located at 4730 Lake Rd. Farwell, MI 48622) prior to June 13, 2024. If you are not a White Birch member, please contact Michelle at 989-588-2853 for gate entrance. Students must review the manual on their own and arrive for the "in-person person field day" with the end of chapter exercises completed. Students that do not complete this requirement will not be admitted into the class. Reviewing the manual and completing the end of chapter exercises should take approximately 4 hours. The in-person field day will consist of a legal review and final exam. Upon successful completion of the end of chapter exercises and test the student will be issued an ORV Safety Certificate.

An ORV Safety Certificate is required for anyone under the age of 16 when operating an ORV in Michigan. There is no age limit to attend the class. However, students must be able to read, comprehend, and pass a written examination. All students 10 and under must have an adult attend the in person training with them.

About the Program

Overview:

The main purpose of the ORV safety education course is to educate and develop safe, knowledgeable and responsible ORV owners and operators. Topics covered include correct riding techniques, protective equipment, understanding terrain and trail operation, laws and regulations, causes and prevention of crashes, and environmental concerns and reporting responsibility. 
Any ORV operator under 16 years old riding on public or private land is required to pass an approved ORV safety course. Michigan’s ORV education course is taught by a dedicated core of certified volunteer instructors, sheriff’s deputies and Michigan conservation officers.

  • In person, traditional classroom setting 
  • 6 hours minimum class time 
  • Written test (80% or better to pass) 
  • No minimum age requirement; however, students under 10 years of age shall be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian or other adult approved by parent or legal guardian.
