About this Event:

THE FIRST THING YOU MUST DO IS PAY $10 (non refundable) at the DETROIT SPORTSMANS CONGRESS PROSHOP to hold your seat. You will be removed from the list if not done in 10 days. See the bottom of this class description for time/days and location. This TRADITIONAL class is over two days, Saturday/Sunday. You must attend both days. It will be taught by 10 or more trained certified hunter education volunteer instructors. A DNR officer is also expected to review the Michigan Hunting Digest. At completion you will receive your orange hunter education certificate card that is also good for out of state hunting. This card can be taken to any location where hunting licenses are sold to purchase a license. You will also be added to the states E-license database and be able to buy your Michigan license on-line. Allow one to two weeks from class completion for an E-license.

The class is $10 (non-refundable) with two ways to pay. 1) CALL- the DSC Proshop during open hours on Wednesday or Thursday with your credit card information (3% credit card charge). OR 2) Walk-in and pay at the Range Building Pro-shop during open hours on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, or Sunday. Detroit Sportsmen’s Congress Range Building Pro-shop open hours. Open Wed/Thur 10a-6p or Sat/Sun 10a- 4p. PLEASE NOTE: Payment MUST be made within 10 days, or your name will be removed from the class.

About the Program

Overview:

The main purpose of the hunter education course is to train safe, legal and responsible hunters. Topics covered include understanding wildlife management, wildlife identification, ethics, laws and regulations, and firearms safety and handling.
In order to purchase a hunting license in Michigan, an individual born on or after January 1, 1960, is required to successfully complete an approved hunter education course. Michigan’s traditional hunter education course is taught by a dedicated core of certified volunteer instructors and Michigan conservation officers.

About the Class:
  • In person, traditional classroom setting including hands on training.
  • Minimum of 10 hours over a minimum of two days.
  • Written test (80% or better to pass) and practice assessment (pass/fail).
  • Maximum $10 fee.
  • No minimum age requirement; however, students under 10 years of age shall be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian or other adult approved by parent or legal guardian.
