About this Event:

This Traditional Hunter Education course is free of charge to students. The course will take place over 3 days - Thursday evening, Friday evening, and Saturday. The Thursday and Friday evening courses will consist of class lecture, and the Saturday course will consist of class lecture, testing, and field day activities where students will participate in live fire exercises. Firearms, ammo, and safety equipment will be provided. DO NOT bring your own firearms or ammunition to class. Most class materials will be provided. Please bring a #2 pencil to class. Please dress appropriately for the field day activities on Saturday. Snacks and drinks will be available for a small fee. Lunch will be provided on Saturday at no cost. If you have a child taking the course, you or another adult may accompany them during class. We look forward to seeing you at the course in August! **NOTE: We do not accept walk-ins. You must register online with the correct name and address of the individual taking the course. If someone shows up to the course and is not on the roster, they will not be able to complete the course. ***NOTE: Students must attend and complete all 3 days of course instruction to receive their Hunter Safety certificate.

About the Program

Overview:

The main purpose of the hunter education course is to train safe, legal and responsible hunters. Topics covered include understanding wildlife management, wildlife identification, ethics, laws and regulations, and firearms safety and handling.
In order to purchase a hunting license in Michigan, an individual born on or after January 1, 1960, is required to successfully complete an approved hunter education course. Michigan’s traditional hunter education course is taught by a dedicated core of certified volunteer instructors and Michigan conservation officers.

About the Class:
  • In person, traditional classroom setting including hands on training.
  • Minimum of 10 hours over a minimum of two days.
  • Written test (80% or better to pass) and practice assessment (pass/fail).
  • Maximum $10 fee.
  • No minimum age requirement; however, students under 10 years of age shall be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian or other adult approved by parent or legal guardian.
