About this Event:

Boater Safety two day evening class. Please read the following in its entirety:

**DISCLAIMER** Children under the age of 16 MUST be accompanied by parent or legal guardian. Students over the age of 16 MUST have the legal ability to drive a vehicle they are bringing to and from class, or be accompanied by a responsible party who can drive a vehicle and will be present for the duration of both classes.

Please be advised our building is located on a Michigan DNR park site. A $19 access fee may be charged if the guard shack is staffed by the state If you do not already have an annual park pass. Annual park passes can be purchased for $14 from the Secretary of State.

Located at Macomb County Sheriff Marine Division 33125 South River Road, Harrison Township, 48045.

Enter the building at the GARAGE door entrance on the west end of the building, not the main entrance.

MUST attend both days to receive boater safety card. Open to the general public, and free of charge. The Sheriff's office will supply pens, pencils, highlighters and course books.

About the Program

Overview:

The main purpose of the boater safety education course is to train knowledgeable, safe and responsible boaters. Topics covered include general boating and water safety, navigational rules, causes and prevention of crashes, operation and fueling techniques, environmental concerns and reporting responsibility. 
Any motorized boat operator born after June 30, 1996, is required by law to pass an approved boater safety course and to carry a boater safety certificate. In addition, boater education is also required for all PWC operators born after December 31, 1978. Michigan’s boater education course is taught by a dedicated core of certified volunteer instructors, sheriff’s deputies and Michigan conservation officers. 

About the Class: 
  • In person, traditional classroom setting 
  • Written test (80% or better to pass) 
  • No minimum age requirement; however, students under 10 years of age shall be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian or other adult approved by parent or legal guardian.
