About this Event:

This is a field day to complete the online hunter's safety training. The on-line portion must be completed to participate in the field day event. Please bring your Michigan Field Day Voucher showing successful completion of the on-line course.. Sign in begins at 8:00 am with class beginning at 8:30 a.m. sharp. We will go over some of the Michigan hunting regulations with possible conservation officers in attendance. There will be a practical portion of the class where you will have to demonstrate safe handling of a firearm successfully, and a chance at live fire of a 20 ga shotgun and 22 rifle. Live fire is optional, but encouraged. There will be other safety activities during practical portion. There will be a review for the State of Michigan multiple choice test before it is given. You must pass this test with 80% required to qualify for your hunter safety certificate. Please bring eye and hearing protection if you are going to participate in live fire. Prepare and dress appropriately for the weather.

About the Program

Overview:

The main purpose of the hunter education field day course is to provide an alternative to the traditional course. This course is the same as the traditional hunter education course; however, the classroom portion is completed by either, online training or as a take home study format. 
In order to purchase a hunting license in Michigan, an individual born on or after January 1, 1960, is required to successfully complete an approved hunter education course. There are two different formats for successfully completing the field day course. Students must take either, the online course or the take home study, then complete the field day in order to earn a hunter safety certificate. Students choosing the online course followed by the field day must present a copy of their certificate of completion (voucher) of the online course at the start of the field day.  The certificate of completion (voucher) of the online course is valid for 12 months from the completion date.  The online course is fee based and can be taken at https://www.hunter-ed.com/michigan/. The second format is take home study. Students register for the field day and pick up the student manual, a minimum of one week prior to the field day. Take home study students must complete the chapter review questions and present them at the start of the field day. Michigan’s hunter education course is taught by a dedicated core of certified volunteer instructors and Michigan conservation officers.
