About this Event:
This is a Trappers Education Field Day. By the time you attend this Field Day you will have mastered the Online Course and will be fully prepared to pass a written 50 Question, State Required test. You will also have to submit your Certificate of Completion for the On-line Course to me by email or bring it to the class. You will not be eligible to attend the Field day if you have not completed, passed, and submitted the Certificate for the Online Class. Since Trapping involves a lifetime of learning and because the Field Day is limited to 5 hours most of the study will be your responsibility. So don't just skim the Online Course and expect to easily past the test! There will be very little review at the field day. There will be a $10 Fee for the Field Day. A simple meal will be provided and passing students will receive a pail of “goodies” worth well over $10.
Instead of preparing you for the test, we will be talking about ethics, humane trapping methods, trapline safety, fur-handling, and the many other important aspects of becoming an ethical, efficient, and productive trapper who respects private property, other people in the woods, and who wants to continue and preserve trapping and scientific wildlife management for future generations.

About the Program
Overview:
The trapper education safety certificate cannot be used to purchase a hunting license in Michigan. Individuals must complete a Michigan hunter education course (traditional or field day) to purchase a hunting license in Michigan.
The main purpose of the trapper education course is to help individuals acquire the knowledge, skill, attitude, and judgment to selectively and responsibly trap furbearing animals. Topics covered include understanding wildlife management, wildlife identification, various trapping techniques, ethics, laws and regulations.
How do I register my child for a class if they do not have an email address? It is very common that the student looking to register for a class does not have an email of their own. To solve this predicament, we created a process called "Linking Accounts". By creating an account of your own and "linking" the student to that account, you now have the option to sign them up for a class with your own email. All communication about the event will be sent over to you making it easy to keep track of things. Steps to create a linked account.

Trapper education is not required in Michigan; however, some states and provinces require a valid trapper education certification. The Michigan trapper education certificate meets the trapper education requirements of those states and provinces. There are two different formats for successfully completing the field day course. Students must take either, the online course or the take home study, then complete the field day in order to earn a bow hunter safety certificate. Students choosing the online course followed by the field day must present a copy of their certificate of completion (voucher) of the online course at the start of the field day. The certificate of completion (voucher) of the online course is valid for 12 months from the completion date. The online course can be taken at https://afwatrapping.outdooreln.org. The second format is take home study. Students register for the field day and pick up the student manual, a minimum of one week prior to the field day. Take home study students must complete the chapter review questions and present them at the start of the field day. Michigan’s trapper education course is taught by a dedicated core of certified volunteer instructors and Michigan conservation officers.
