This Michigan DNR traditional hunter education course is an in-person classroom and field session, covering topics like firearm safety, wildlife management, and hunter ethics.
It is required for those born after January 1, 1960. Students must complete the full coursework, which includes a hands-on field day, to receive their certificate and purchase a hunting license. After classroom instruction using the “Today’s Hunter in Michigan – a guide to hunting responsibly and safely”, a DNR approved manual, each hunter will be given an opportunity to shoot with a certified DNR instructor and display the safe gun handling they learn from in the classroom. Live fire is optional but encouraged. The course includes going over a practice test as a group in the classroom, then a written test, no books or notes, with a passing score of 80% or higher.
The class is a two-day class, Friday 4:00 – 7:00PM and Saturday 9:00 – 4:00PM

How do I register my child for a class if they do not have an email address? It is very common that the student looking to register for a class does not have an email of their own. To solve this predicament, we created a process called "Linking Accounts". By creating an account of your own and "linking" the student to that account, you now have the option to sign them up for a class with your own email. All communication about the event will be sent over to you making it easy to keep track of things. Steps to create a linked account.
