About this Event:

This is a Traditional Hunter's Education Course which will consist of (3) total days of instruction in which the student must be present at all (3) classes. This class will be 100% free to the student. Days 1 and 2 will consist of classroom instruction indoors with numerous instructors and visual props/aids. Light snacks/drinks provided. Day 3, which is Saturday, will consist of both inside instruction as well as outdoor field day activities. Dress for the weather. We will be outside no matter what as long as it is safe. This part of the class is required; no exceptions. A free lunch will be provided on the last day. No students or accompanying adults are to bring any type of weapons such as firearms, ammunition, knives, etc etc to any of the classes. Students should come with a writing utensil for notetaking, but all learning material is provided. On Saturday, if the student has eye protection (safety glasses) and hearing protection, you are encouraged to bring that but it is not required. These items will be provided for use the day of.

About the Program

Overview:

The main purpose of the hunter education course is to train safe, legal and responsible hunters. Topics covered include understanding wildlife management, wildlife identification, ethics, laws and regulations, and firearms safety and handling.

How do I register my child for a class if they do not have an email address?  It is very common that the student looking to register for a class does not have an email of their own. To solve this predicament, we created a process called "Linking Accounts". By creating an account of your own and "linking" the student to that account, you now have the option to sign them up for a class with your own email. All communication about the event will be sent over to you making it easy to keep track of things.  Steps to create a linked account.
In order to purchase a hunting license in Michigan, an individual born on or after January 1, 1960, is required to successfully complete an approved hunter education course. Michigan’s traditional hunter education course is taught by a dedicated core of certified volunteer instructors and Michigan conservation officers.

About the Class:
  • In person, traditional classroom setting including hands on training.
  • Minimum of 10 hours over a minimum of two days.
  • Written test (80% or better to pass) and practice assessment (pass/fail).
  • Maximum $10 fee.
  • No minimum age requirement; however, students under 10 years of age shall be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian or other adult approved by parent or legal guardian.
