About this Event:
This will be an eight-hour field day. It will be open to first time students wishing to obtain their Trappers Education Certificates, adults who already trap who may be looking to obtain their Michigan Trappers Ed Certificate so they can trap out of state in those states that honor the Michigan Certificate, and to those wishing to become Michigan Trappers Ed Instructors.
All students will need to complete the online course prior to the field day and will have to pass the 50 Question State Exam on the date of the scheduled field day. This includes first-timers, adults looking for certification, and potential instructors. Completion of the on-line course, the field day, and the State Exam are all necessary for Certification and will fulfill the first step in becoming a Certified Instructor.
There is a $10 fee for the field day and this small fee will include a simple meal of hot dogs, chips, cookies, and soda or bottled water. A free give-away of some trapping related items will be handed out to those students that are under the age of 18.
A more complete agenda for the field day will be provided to registered students at a later date.
Please note that the times for the field day are actually CENTRAL TIME! THE FIELD DAY IS FROM 9:00 AM TILL 5:00 PM CENTRAL TIME -- not EDT!!!!

About the Program
Overview:
The trapper education safety certificate cannot be used to purchase a hunting license in Michigan. Individuals must complete a Michigan hunter education course (traditional or field day) to purchase a hunting license in Michigan.
The main purpose of the trapper education course is to help individuals acquire the knowledge, skill, attitude, and judgment to selectively and responsibly trap furbearing animals. Topics covered include understanding wildlife management, wildlife identification, various trapping techniques, ethics, laws and regulations.
How do I register my child for a class if they do not have an email address? It is very common that the student looking to register for a class does not have an email of their own. To solve this predicament, we created a process called "Linking Accounts". By creating an account of your own and "linking" the student to that account, you now have the option to sign them up for a class with your own email. All communication about the event will be sent over to you making it easy to keep track of things. Steps to create a linked account.

Trapper education is not required in Michigan; however, some states and provinces require a valid trapper education certification. The Michigan trapper education certificate meets the trapper education requirements of those states and provinces. There are two different formats for successfully completing the field day course. Students must take either, the online course or the take home study, then complete the field day in order to earn a bow hunter safety certificate. Students choosing the online course followed by the field day must present a copy of their certificate of completion (voucher) of the online course at the start of the field day. The certificate of completion (voucher) of the online course is valid for 12 months from the completion date. The online course can be taken at https://afwatrapping.outdooreln.org. The second format is take home study. Students register for the field day and pick up the student manual, a minimum of one week prior to the field day. Take home study students must complete the chapter review questions and present them at the start of the field day. Michigan’s trapper education course is taught by a dedicated core of certified volunteer instructors and Michigan conservation officers.
