This is a field day only; students must bring proof of online course completion (https://www.hunter-ed.com/michigan/) OR bring a completed copy of the Chapter Review Exercise questions in the back of the “Today’s Hunter in Michigan” book. This handbook is available at the Capital Area Sportsmen’s League, free of charge. This is a community service program offered by the Capital Area Sportsmen’s League in cooperation with Michigan DNR. There is no charge for the field day. If you choose to take the online training option, there is a small charge for that. We will do some review of the material, help you take the written exam, and, hopefully, send you on your way with your new Hunter Safety Certificate. - Students under 10 years old must be accompanied by an adult during the entire class. - You must be registered as a student prior to class. We do not expect to have room for walk-ins.
Upon completion of the class about 6pm. We will have a live fire shooting option available 6 to 8pm free of charge. All guns and ammo will be provided by Pheasants forever. We will also have Pizza available during class.

About the Program

Overview:

The main purpose of the hunter education field day course is to provide an alternative to the traditional course. This course is the same as the traditional hunter education course; however, the classroom portion is completed by either, online training or as a take home study format.
In order to purchase a hunting license in Michigan, an individual born on or after January 1, 1960, is required to successfully complete an approved hunter education course. There are two different formats for successfully completing the field day course. Students must take either, the online course or the take home study, then complete the field day in order to earn a hunter safety certificate. Students choosing the online course followed by the field day must present a copy of their certificate of completion (voucher) of the online course at the start of the field day.  The certificate of completion (voucher) of the online course is valid for 12 months from the completion date.  The online course is fee based and can be taken at https://www.hunter-ed.com/michigan/. The second format is take home study. Students register for the field day and pick up the student manual, a minimum of one week prior to the field day. Take home study students must complete the chapter review questions and present them at the start of the field day. Michigan’s hunter education course is taught by a dedicated core of certified volunteer instructors and Michigan conservation officers.
