About this Event:

This is a three day traditional hunter education course with two days of classroom instruction followed by a field day event. You will be required to attend all three days and pass the written exam in order to receive your hunter education certificate.
Anyone attending that is under the age of 10 must have an adult attend with them.
Training materials are provided during the class but please bring a pencil/pen to take additional notes.
All firearms, archery equipment, and safety equipment will be provided during the class. DO NOT BRING ANY FIREARMS OR ARCHERY EQUIPMENT TO ANY OF THE CLASSES INCLUDING THE FIELD DAY.
Please be on time so we may start on time. There is a lot of information to cover in the allotted time.
Saturday (08/09/2025) is field day. We will be shooting firearms and archery equipment. Make sure to dress for the weather. We will be going outside rain or shine so be prepared.
Appropriate dress includes supportive shoes, no crocs, slippers, sandals, flip flops, etc. You should also bring a lunch on Saturday to eat during the presentation by the conservation officers.

About the Program

Overview:

The main purpose of the hunter education course is to train safe, legal and responsible hunters. Topics covered include understanding wildlife management, wildlife identification, ethics, laws and regulations, and firearms safety and handling.
In order to purchase a hunting license in Michigan, an individual born on or after January 1, 1960, is required to successfully complete an approved hunter education course. Michigan’s traditional hunter education course is taught by a dedicated core of certified volunteer instructors and Michigan conservation officers.

About the Class:
  • In person, traditional classroom setting including hands on training.
  • Minimum of 10 hours over a minimum of two days.
  • Written test (80% or better to pass) and practice assessment (pass/fail).
  • Maximum $10 fee.
  • No minimum age requirement; however, students under 10 years of age shall be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian or other adult approved by parent or legal guardian.
