About this Event:
This is a FIELD DAY offered at no cost by the Harbor Springs Outdoor Club for those who have completed either the paid online course from Kalkomey or the free home study option. If you would like to do the free home study, books can be picked up at the HSOC to be read and review questions answered prior to field day. It is suggested that parents/guardian remain with students 12 and under but it is REQUIRED for students 10 and under. Class is scheduled 9am to 3pm, but it is likely to end earlier. Please make sure students have a number to contact their ride, as cell service is spotty and they may need to use the land line. When you arrive the day of, the class is held in the building. The range is active, and there most likely will be shooting. Please do not park in front of shooting line. Park up by the building or in the grass opposite of the shooting line. We will provide all equipment necessary for the different events. Per the DNR, no one is allowed to bring firearms into the classroom, even licensed CPL holders. Leave any firearms locked up at home or in your vehicle. If you have any questions or concerns about the class, contact Ryan McRae via email rmcrae980@hotmail.com or text (618) 367-2797.

The main purpose of the hunter education field day course is to provide an alternative to the traditional course. This course is the same as the traditional hunter education course; however, the classroom portion is completed by either, online training or as a take home study format.
How do I register my child for a class if they do not have an email address? It is very common that the student looking to register for a class does not have an email of their own. To solve this predicament, we created a process called "Linking Accounts". By creating an account of your own and "linking" the student to that account, you now have the option to sign them up for a class with your own email. All communication about the event will be sent over to you making it easy to keep track of things. Steps to create a linked account.

In order to purchase a hunting license in Michigan, an individual born on or after January 1, 1960, is required to successfully complete an approved hunter education course. There are two different formats for successfully completing the field day course. Students must take either, the online course or the take home study, then complete the field day in order to earn a hunter safety certificate. Students choosing the online course followed by the field day must present a copy of their certificate of completion (voucher) of the online course at the start of the field day. The certificate of completion (voucher) of the online course is valid for 12 months from the completion date. The online course is fee based and can be taken at https://www.hunter-ed.com/michigan/. The second format is take home study. Students register for the field day and pick up the student manual, a minimum of one week prior to the field day. Take home study students must complete the chapter review questions and present them at the start of the field day. Michigan’s hunter education course is taught by a dedicated core of certified volunteer instructors and Michigan conservation officers.
